[Workshop] How to write successful proposals

  • You will understand characteristics of a good proposal and how to implement them in yours;
  • You gain understanding of impact and dissemination;
  • You understand that project management and the implementation of your project start in your proposal;
  • You will understand the settings of a clinical trial in H2020 projects.

Program

9:00 – 9:10

Welcome and Opening

9:10 – 10:40

Work programmes in Horizon 2020

We will look closely at the set-up of the work programmes and together analyse a call text (we can target at specific calls, interesting for your organization). We will look inside-out: from idea to call text and outside-in: from impact and evaluation to your proposal.

Exercise: one-pager on your topic call: how to translate call topic > project idea or vice versa (parallel groups are possible)

10:40 – 11:00

Coffee break

11:00 – 12:00

Well begun is half done
We will follow the structure of a H2020 proposal, section B1 Scientific Excellence is where it all starts: how to translate your idea into a project. We will discuss how to select your partners, a working plan to write your proposal and how to sell your idea from scratch on.

Exercise: make a writing plan towards a well-prepared proposal.

12:00 – 13:00

Clinical Trials
As IDIBELL is involved in clinical trials, changes are high that H2020 applications will involve a clinical trial as well. The group will learn about the extra dimension (opportunities and risks) of clinical trials in H2020.

Exercise: risks and mitigations, how to plan for disaster and aim for success?

13:00 – 14:00

Lunch

14:00 – 14:30

Ping-pong along
During this highly interactive sessions, the group identifies the missing link towards success? Which improvement is needed in their proposal? They can ask questions plenary or in smaller groups, during this session we will exchange our experience and knowledge to improve this round of proposals.

14:30 – 15:00

Impact and Dissemination
Your project needs to create impact on many levels. But what is impact? We will discuss how to write your impact section measurable, reasonable and understandable. Learning how to disseminate your project results and discuss exploitation.

15:00 – 15:15

Coffee break

15:15 – 16:45

Realtime output
We want the group to brainstorm on (one of) your proposals that either failed on impact or a proposal you still need to submit. We can also make smaller groups if needed. Objective: identify impact and dissemination opportunities, exploitable results? What will be your post- project scenario and how to budget for this?
Exercise: Identify impact enablers for your project and start mapping your impact strategy: which actions are needed and which actors do you need to involve.

16:45 – 17:00

Final Q&A and closing remarks

17:00
