With the aim to encourage students to pursue a scientific career after graduation, the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) offers 10 undergraduate students in their final year of university and master students the opportunity to join the research groups at IDIBELL and complete their training during the summer. Participants will receive theoretical and hands-on training that will allow them to conduct research at IDIBELL.

Identifican una proteína determinante para la progresión tumoral y la metástasis del cáncer infantil Rabdomiosarcoma

El grupo del Dr. Oscar M. Tirado del IDIBELL ha identificado LOXL2 como una pieza clave en la capacidad metastásica de los tumores en el Rabdomiosarcoma alveolar. LOXL2 actuaría dentro de las células promoviendo la migración y la invasión de estas, lo que haría aumentar la capacidad metastásica de los tumores, y por tanto, obtener un peor pronóstico de los pacientes. El trabajo aporta información muy valiosa para el diseño de nuevos fármacos contra este tipo de tumores.

Identified a determinant protein for tumor progression and metastasis in childhood cancer Rhabdomyosarcoma

Dr. Oscar M. Tirado’s group from IDIBELL has identified LOXL2 as an essential element in the metastatic capacity of tumors from alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. LOXL2 would act inside the cell, promoting migration and invasion, which would increase the metastatic capacity of the tumors and generate a worse prognosis for the patients. The work provides valuable information for the design of new drugs against this type of tumor.

El grup del Dr. Oscar M. Tirado del IDIBELL ha identificat LOXL2 com una peça clau en la capacitat metastàtica dels tumors en el Rabdomiosarcoma alveolar. LOXL2 actuaria dins les cèl·lules promovent la migració i la invasió d’aquestes, el que faria augmentar la capacitat metastàtica dels tumors, i per tant, obtenir un pitjor pronòstic dels pacients. El treball aporta informació molt valuosa pel disseny de nous fàrmacs contra aquest tipus de tumors.
