The package containing samples will be shipped at the beginning of the week (Monday - Wednesday).
Blood samples
Between 15 and 20 ml of total blood are required with EDTA anticoagulant for each sample to be analysed. Each tube will bear the name or number identifying all family members. The tubes will be protected with cotton wool or cellulose to prevent them breaking.
On the day of shipment, a phone call will be made to ensure the shipment does not go amiss and/or to notify of any delay in delivery. The delivery deadline will be between 24-48 hours, and during that period the samples must be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature of 4ºC (they should not be frozen and should never be transported when frozen).
The package will be shipped at room temperature by urgent messenger service.
DNA Samples
They may be stored in the refrigerator at 4ºC, frozen at -80ºC or packed in liquid nitrogen. Never frozen at -20ºC.
The package will be sent at room temperature by urgent messenger service.
In both cases, the following documents must be attached
Analysis request made by a qualified physician to whom the results report will be sent.
Clinical summary of the disease suffered by the patient or patients under study and the results of the analyses performed on their relatives (in cases involving family members).

It is vital to attach an undertaking by the Hospital Administration making the application to pay the expenses involved in shipping the samples for the genetic study.
