Research centre for cellular medicine

 

Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) is a research centre focused on cellular medicine, where the high level basic research focuses and works on relevant clinical matters and the economic development.

IDIBELL is a foundation created in 2004 from the fusion of several research entities. The centre manages the research of the Bellvitge University Hospital, the Institut Català d’Oncologia (Catalan Institute of Oncology) and the University of Barcelona. The Institute is integrated at Biopol’H space.

On 2009, it has become one of the first five Spanish research centers accredited as institute of sanitary research by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (Health Institute Carlos III).

The Bellvitge Institute of Biomedical Research is placed in the town of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, in the south of Barcelona. Its facilities are distributed among the Duran Hospital i Reynals, the Bellvitge University Hospital and the buildings belonging to the campus of the University of Barcelona in Bellvitge. They are all integrated in the before mentioned project Biopol.

A fundamental aspect of the research carried out in IDIBELL is its proximity to the patients. For its situation and for the daily welfare activity that many of the IDIBELL researchers develop, it is easier to acknowledge which problems are really priority and which solutions are effective in the daily clinical practice.

IDIBELL is a foundation created in 2004 from the fusion of several research entities: the Bellvitge University Hospital, the Institut Català d’Oncologia (Catalan Institute of Oncology), the University of Barcelona and the Institute of Image Diagnosis. The Institute is integrated in the health park of L’Hospitalet, known as Biopol’H.

The main scientific partners of the foundation are the University of Barcelona, the Institut Català d’Oncologia (Catalan Institute of Oncology), and the ICS (Catalan Institute of the Health) represented by the Bellvitge University Hospital.
